Join Us in the JOY Project Challenge!

The Foundation believes small yet meaningful moments of joy can change the world. Seeking to partner on a project to strengthen person to person connections and increase JOY.
Starting May 2nd, choose one act centered around a daily theme. Gather, discuss, dream, do. Plan out each day with your friends or family and let your JOY flag fly.

PLAY along with us by taking an action based on the daily themes below!

Monday, May 2nd
DAY ONE: DIVERSITY IS BEAUTIFUL!

We can all learn from each other to make our community stronger. Do one thing today to reflect on the diversity in our schools.

Potential Actions:
• Ask a classmate who speaks a different language than you how to say “thank you”.
• Listen to a song from a different culture.
• Choose a book from the library whose author is very different than you! Share the book on social media with #theJOYProjectBPS

Tuesday, May 3rd
DAY TWO: ART & MUSIC INSPIRES!

Music and art can lift spirits, heal hearts and speak truth. Do one thing today that sparks a greater appreciation for music or the arts.

Potential Actions:
• Turn up the volume, close your eyes and let the music take over.
• Choregraph a karaoke music video with family and friends and share it on social media with #theJOYProjectBPS – be silly, have fun!
• Share an artistic creation on social media with #theJOYProjectBPS!
• Contribute one song to the JOY Project playlist by commenting on social media with #theJOYProjectBPS

Wednesday, May 4th
DAY THREE: EAT GOOD FOOD!

Food has the power to bring people together and transport us to other places. In Bellingham Public Schools, we are lucky to benefit from the Good Food Promise which aspires to provide students with real food, made with love.

Potential Actions:
• Look at the school lunch calendar and plan to try a hot meal that looks delicious.
• Say thank you to the Central Kitchen and food staff who make our daily school meals possible!
• Take an Adventure Bite  – Experiment with a new recipe for a family dinner one night this week and share it to #theJOYProjectBPS

Thursday, May 5th
DAY FOUR: STAFF APPRECIATION!

Who are the teachers that have made a significant difference in your life? Who are the staff that have supported you in large or small ways? There are SO MANY people who work to make our schools engaging, beautiful, healthy and safe spaces to learn.

Potential Actions:
• This is National Teacher & Staff Appreciation week – a perfect time to write a note or leave a surprise treat for the teachers and school staff who have taught you something invaluable or make your day brighter.

Friday, May 6th
DAY FIVE: GET ACTIVE!

Moving our bodies makes us feel better in nearly every way. For many of us, we have been sitting a lot more than normal this last year – so let’s get moving!

Potential Actions:
• Head to the pump track, skatepark or stream an online workout.
• Take a walk or run on the trails with friends or your family.
• Head to your favorite park or explore a new one! Need help finding a park or getting outside? Try this link:
